HOOFBOOTS TIPS & TRICKS
Before using Easyboots that have gaiters you can train your gaiter to stay over the back of the boot out of your way by soaking in water, folding the gaiter back over the boot and allow to dry.
Freshly trim your horses hooves before measuring for your new boots as a trim can change a size!
When your boots are new you can soak them in warm water right before you use them and this will allow the rubber to soften for easier application.
Do not pull the boot on or off by the gaiter you will tear it!
The heel strap in the Epics and Bares is removable and this can make the boot half a size bigger if you remove the heel strap.
Placing comfort pads in your boots make them even more comfortable and can also help with some smaller fitting issues. The pads come in several thicknesses.
When putting boots on the easiest way i have found is to place the toe in the boot as far in as you can and hold the horses leg between or on your leg and use both hands to rock/twist gently the boot from side to side till it is on. DO NOT USE THE GAITER TO PULL IT ON!
When removing I push on one side then then the other side alternating until the boot is off - DO NOT USE THE GAITER to remove the boot!
I also use CU-RASH at rides as a precaution for rubbing under my gaiters - you can purchase it at a chemist in the baby powder section.
If you find your gaiter rubs you can try the cu-rash of filtabac - if this does not work you can wrap vetwrap around the leg underneath the gaiter or a woollen sock even pantyhose! For the vet wrap to remain in place you will need to also wrap it around the hoof. Boots can also be foamed on so the gaiter is totally removed. See the Easycare website on the links page for more details on foaming.
2009 - new Glue on boots are now released so instead of foaming can use a glue on gaiter free if your horse is prone to rubbing.
